The Post About Potter Needs a Home

Paper Towel
The grammar is a bit off (one of my pickiest of pet peeves - God loves apostrophes, use them). But the truth is the truth. Right there on that paper towel.

You are the best.

Seriously. The fact that you come and you read and you comment or you consider commenting and then come back again. It's a nice kick in my self-esteem pants. It's been the loveliest year of blogging and I look forward to many more. I'd love for you to stick around until you get ornery and then you should only visit news websites.

Since you've been crowned "the best" you're worthy of a little swag. There's Kate Spade treasures and Old Navy cash already brewing for giveaway earlier this week.

But what's the gravy?

iPod collage
Meet Potter. He's my iPod. And he's looking for a new home.

He's a 30GB 5th generation video iPod classic in fabulous condition with a few songs already stored and ready to roll. ("a few" may be around 1800 including all the ones I've already recommended).

So could you provide a good home for Potter?

  2. I already love Potter. (May I call him Potter? Mr. Potter?) My ancient iPod is huge, but doesn't have a video screen. Me likey.

The thing I love best about my hometown is that all my family lives here, still. We moved back to Winfield in 2004, when my youngest child was 6 months old, in order to be close to my parents and extended family. They did a great job raising me, and I wanted my kids to benefit from their love, too--just not long-distance.

  6. I guess I can call my home town Big Stone Gap, Va
thats where I graduated High School and joined the Army. I really love the mountains and watching the seasons change. The people are awesome too. It's a very small town where you can leave your doors unlocked and everyone knows your name.

  7. I grew up in Waikanae, Kapiti Coast, New Zealand. It's mostly an oversized retirement village but I loved it. What I like about it nowadays is that it's a great place to learn how to drive with all the wide, deserted roads for a 22 year old with only a learners license (*blush*).

I also subscribe in Google reader.

  8. iPods are the devil - but Jamie and her Rabbits are awesome! and yes I did have a little drinky today but thats what you get when you post a blog entry late - so this is not an entry for me it is a second entry for the Kiwi (Mariah) - you can thank Scott Dixon, you Kiwi you!
Oh yeah, for the entry - the one thing I love about my hometown is that I don't live there anymore!!! :-P

So any time of the day/nite when u feel like hanging out with friends and have some "teh tarik" or have a quick bite late at nite, "mamak" is the place to be ;)

  21. I grew up in the country (yes, that's a place) outside of a small town in MS. I'm grateful that I no longer live in that small town - but I have wonderful memories. Here is a random one: The public library was my drop-off bus stop everyday for FOUR YEARS. I'm sure the librarian (she's probably still there after 13 years) would recognize my face! (Side note: This was also the same library where my grandmother would exchange a paper sack full of Harlequin romance books for a new stash every week!)

  24. I grew up in Boston MA and, as a kid, what I liked best about it was that we had extra school holidays that noone else did, like Evacuation Day and Patriots' Day. What I like about it now and miss the most is the food! (All that good seafood!)I also appreciate the fact that they really drum American history into your head in the schools there because otherwise I probably wouldn't even be able to play Jeopardy. ;-)

  25. I'm a follower. I voted for you. I stalk you on twitter. And, I love my hometown because there is really no place like home. It's where my memories are of my dad, it's all I have left of him. It's where my brother and my mother still are. It's where I spent the night with my Granny and Big Roy and learned how to say Now I lay me Down to Sleep. It's where I went to get help from all my school teacher aunts on my school projects. It's where I got married in the front yard. There really is no place like home.

  30. I love Bessemer. Most people don't. My favorite thing about Bessemer where I grew up was all the old mines. Bubba and I would go and explore these really dangerous places. Magic was real back then people. Magic was real. By the way Jamie you are a blog prostitute. Yay for prostitution. I want the Ipod.

  32. Growing up my town was always the northern area of town. You either lived north of the river or south of the river. South of the river was the more developed "civilized" city, and north was the rural area known as redneck town. Although not a redneck myself, I always loved living in the more rural area of town, surrounded by small farms and cow pastures, people riding horses down the side of the road, gunfire regularly heard in the surrounding woods and pickup trucks EVERYWHERE. I loved going out and feeding the cows and horses in the pasture across from my home.

  35. I grew up out in the country and attended a small school. The great thing about living in a small community is that everyone knew everyone else and was concerned about their problems. The bad thing about growing up in a small community was that everyone knew everyone and all about their problems. I live in a large city now and I miss that sense of community,

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love my hometown because my family is here. I also love my hometown because it is just the right size - not too small and not too big (around 8,000 residents). I love the area it is in - at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains! We aren't too far from the sea - about 5 hours, and we are right here next to the mountains. The crime rate isn't very high and you can still rent a 2 bedroom house with a yard for 500 a month.

I grew up thinking nothing of it, but once I moved, everyone told me how beautiful New Mexio was. I kind of shrugged it off. Now, when I go back, I am in awe of the beauty of the expanse.

  47. I like that our main street used to be just dirt - underneath were tunnels that Chinese immigrants used to live in (unfortunately)when the railroads were being built almost 100 years ago in California.

The tunnels were also also used to smuggle opium and led to a brothel (now a pizza place - the other pizza place used to be a bank and a farm where Sea Biscuit once stayed) It's a quaint little town (literally one street is downtown.) with some interesting history!

  51. I love my hometown (good ol' Adamsville) because it has a lot of different types of people here. And it has a few different "hole in the wall" places that are fabulous and bring back a lot of memories- Gus' Hot Dogs, a small gas station that I went to all the time with my grandfather and referred to as the Icee store because he'd always get me one when we went. The lady at the counter practically watched me grow up.

  133. I love my hometown because it's my hometown. To others it may be just another town. There's a certain emotion to childhood and for me it's a fond one and that's the feeling I get when I think about my hometown in Baltimore, MD. Nostalgia, maybe?

    Bless!

  135. I live in Grand Rapids, in Michigan. Despite our sad economy, I really love the big events a guy named Rob Bliss puts on. From silly things like zombie walks, to a giant water balloon fight, and the day everyone was given chalk to draw all over everything...they are fun. :)

  136. I am 33 and I still live in the town where I grew up. It is technically a village, it is so small. Less than 3000 people. I like that it is safe and my kids can play in the yard without me worrying about them coming to harm. Thanks!

  137. I love the railtrail in my town (they've turned the old railroad tracks into trails with parks throughout town). They are great and we use them all the time.

  154. What do I love about my hometown...the trails! There are so many beautiful trails to run or ride on. Hence the need for an ipod. :) I could really use some tunes to kick up the pace, if you know what I mean.
I'd love to twitter this but I still haven't figured that out yet. :)

  155. My hometown is in the burbs of Minneapolis. It's a bedroom community but at the same time so close to plenty of lakes to enjoy. Potter would be right at home chillin' in a lawnchair watching the sunsets across the lakes and listening to the loons. :-D

I love my hometown, it's technically a suburb but really close to a bigger city so we get the best of both worlds. The people are nice, too.

    Thanks!
