Each weekend, I post a readable, a watchable, and a listenable of which I'm fond. You can choose what happens next. Earlier volumes can be found here.
This weekend is a very special Rabbit Recommends because it's #52. I've been pointing you to things I love for one whole year. As I reviewed all the previous picks for reading, watching and listening - I realized I could stand by them with full confidence. And now I share with you my absolute favorites from that year-long batch:
Read
Entertainment Weekly will always be my pick for best read - behind the Word of God, of course. It doesn't just highlight great things to read, watch and listen to of its own - it has great articles like The Bullseye, The Hit List, The Must List and Sound Bites that always leave me quite pleased. By becoming a subscriber, you too can have it land at your door. Or at least in a box near the road.
Watch
I love television. I'm glad my parents let me watch it ad nauseum. I'm content in having skipped college study groups to watch Friends and ER. I'm perfectly fine with the fact that I know more about actors on the small screen than most historical figures. And my favorite is this: Lost. Its final season begins on February 2. And I'll be there with my nerdy friends gathered around a box of Mr. Cluck's chicken. You can discover how AWESOME it is by watching all 101 episodes for free on Hulu.
Listen
This was hard. But I have to admit, my favorite singer-songwriter of all is Patty Griffin. She has this unique voice that reminds you she's been happy and hurt and everything in-between. This is Up to The Mountain. But all of her songs are worthy of a download with some of my favorites being Rain, When It Don't Come Easy, Every Little Bit, and Forgiveness. Her new album, Downtown Church, will be available on January 26.
--------------------------------------------------------
Now what would an anniversary be without a gift? So to celebrate, I'm giving away a $25 gift card to Amazon, my first-choice for all things pop culture-y. This is enough to buy you a year-long subscription to EW, the 1st season of Lost, or 3 of Patty's albums. Good, no?

The best thing I read this year was "Beginner's Greek." It's like a classic romantic comedy set in the last decade that could star Audrey Hepburn. They meet on a cross continental flight. He gets her digits. Loses said digits and their lives criss cross and intersect in the world of intellectual New York in the best and worst senses of the word. So much fun I have recommended it to everyone. For your tweens and teens, try "The President's Daugher" series. Fun insight to a fictional White House with kidnappings, shootings and witty, clever writing. I read them all.
ReplyDeleteI read A Separate Peace for the first time this year. Amazing book!

SERIOUSLY - My favorite singer/songwriter is PATTY GRIFFIN! I have everything she's ever recorded and I had the amazing chance to meet and talk with her on her tour bus after she performed in Asheville, NC at The Orange Peel. We waited outside for about an hour after the show, and she came out! She let us come on the bus one by one for a picture, a brief chat, and she signed our cds. She is so TINY in person!

But this year for Christmas I received three cds. One artist fits in fairly well with the rest of my collection: Paolo Nutini. But the other two are departures, and I received them together--Susan Boyle and Lady Gaga!! I laughed hard at their sharing wrapping paper, but really...I think they are both fantastic albums! :)
