Disney Role Model #1.
Intelligent, charming, confident and can produce a mirror and a hatstand from the shallow depths of a spectacular handbag.
Disney Role Model #2.
Beautiful, talented, free-spirited and can hoard so hard that an A&E producer drops the down payment on a beach house. I'm a card-carrying member of only one fan club.
Recent phone conversation with my photographer friend Allison:
Me: Where have you been?
Allison: Just left a dance rehearsal. A mom hired me to photograph her daughter.
Me: What's the theme of the recital?
Allison: Her daughter is Ariel, from The Little Mermaid.
Me: So she was dressed as an ungrateful princess skank who deserted her family for a guy she didn't even know and then gave up her VERY VOICE in order to snag that unknown man who DID fall in love with her in 72 hours despite the fact she couldn't read or write or speak?
Allison: Umm...I guess.
Me: Dumb hussy.
So which Disney character do you adore? Or resemble?

All of them - still waiting for my dang prince to come !
ReplyDeleteDon't get me started about The Little Mermaid. In the original fairy tale, the Prince thinks he was rescued by this other chick, falls in love with HER and marries her, and the mermaid turns into sea foam along with all the other mermaids who did the same thing (further solidifying the notion that mermaids are not entirely bright.)
ReplyDeleteIt's like Twilight - girl falls for brooding, borderline stalker guy, gives up literal life to be with him forever. Nothing long-term bad happens. I may have some issues with characters...
I'm definitely Eeyore from "Winnie the Pooh."

I am going to give you a link to s couple of youtube videos. You will thank me later.

Someday... Somewhere out there... etc.
ReplyDeleteEeyore is so very huggable - so a good thing!
ReplyDeleteIt's never too early for a mini-rant. Especially about children's lit.
ReplyDeleteSomeday... Somewhere out there... etc.
ReplyDeleteUmm... comment award of the quarter. And it's only June 9.
ReplyDeleteI totally have that Mary Poppins figurine!! I had an Ariel one too. And Cinderella, and Jasmine...It was quite the collection. I'd definitely pick Mary Poppins over Ariel. I've always been partial to Belle because she's kind and loves to read...but of course, there are issues with that one too...
ReplyDeleteI prefer "interspeciality" because it sounds like special.
ReplyDeletePretty soon it will feel like home . . . Stockholm!
There needs to be a Disney Leading Lady hierarchy. I'm confident Sleeping Beauty would be at the bottom. I mean, really.
ReplyDeleteI loved arial growing up, but I think I was always more like Belle, or at least I wanted to be just like Belle.
ReplyDeleteRegrettably, my mental acumen has been compared to that of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, but so has my chest hair - so I do have that going for me.
ReplyDeleteI definitely can connect to Belle with the reading and getting stuck with hairy guys.
ReplyDeleteGaston is the bad boy every gal is after, so not bad.
ReplyDeleteIn my mind, I'm Jessica Rabbit. In reality, I'm Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast. :)
ReplyDelete:-) Mrs. Potts has many redeeming qualities.
ReplyDeleteAriel doesn't have many good qualities, for sure. Apparently, Princesses with Fins never go to Charm School.
ReplyDeleteIt should be a prerequisite. No matter how you breathe.
ReplyDeleteBelle. Hands down. She was a brunette bookworm like me.
ReplyDeleteWe've not ever met in person and I still would have guessed Belle.
