The Post About Putting the Cart Before the Horse

Absurdity
Some things in life are absurd.

Children dying of preventable diseases. Drunk driving. Racism.

And then there's the truly absurd.

People who don't know what to do with a shopping cart after they're finished using it.

There are two groups of shoppers I need to address.

1. Those who leave the cart in the middle of a parking space or near a pole or on the end of an aisle. NONE of these are suitable resting places for your used buggy. NONE. There are only two appropriate spots. The first is the parking space with rails that usually has a large sign reading "Your Cart Goes Here. Thank You." The second is back inside the store usually near an elderly person welcoming you to the shopping establishment.

2. Those who manage to steer their cart to the above mentioned corral area, but fail to follow the universally agreed upon system of storage. Carts are intended to be pushed into one another. Not parallel or perpendicular or in the shape of your astronomical sign.

If you fall into either of these categories, I accept your apology.

  1. Amen..I see this on a daily basis at Wal-Mart. I think these are some of the same people that feel they need to smoke in front of the entrance and leave their trash in the cart as well..It's funny I don't see that alot at the Hoover Wal-Mart

  2. Preach on sister...I also advocate a car only parking aisle so that we can safely back out and not have to risk life and limb looking around a huge SUV, pickup truck or van. I think the word you are looking for is "astrological" not "astronomical". That more clearly describes the national debt.

  3. Believe me, I see this so many times that there are times I wonder if I should post about them on Furniture and Design Ideas. Of course, in the end, I just remind myself of the disorganized homes they must live in if they can't even put shopping carts back in their right place.

  5. I always put the buggy back in the the place God intended it to go. If it weren't intended for that spot He wouldn't have put the sign there. I spent 6 weeks working at Food Giant when i was 16. I do not like for the bag boys to have to go and corral errant buggies because I hated doing it then. Although I am sure I looked really cute with my mullet, short sleeved white button up shirt, and bow tie.
